Filming Quilting How To Videos

This evening, I had a great time filming the first two how-to videos for the brilliant quilt cushion making kit that Chris Hammacott has made for carers to try. The kits come in a handy craft bag, which can be used for crafting projects and keeping everything together for this and future projects. Future versions of this pattern can develop into all kinds of projects such as a baby quilt or a tote bag.

The videos are just a couple of minutes long and will be:

1: Unpacking your kit
2: Piecing together and sewing the first seams
3: Finishing the front panel
4: Making up the cushion

There will also be a downloadable instruction sheet to print or view online in case you have your own recycled fabrics to have a go with.

The first two videos are finished and the second two will be filmed near the end of the month, which will leave us ready to upload everything together by the end of the month. The kits will contain a video when they are ready.

Three kits will be available for free to carers across the islands who fancy trying out or reconnecting with some patchwork – if you would like one, please let me know. It would be great to know how you get on with it.

Isabel Murray sang for us today in Ness

Have a listen to Isabel Murray singing her favourite song from Songs of Victory today in Ness. Isabel generously sang for us to share the recording around more isolated people across the Western Isles – islander to islander – (and I left the funny part in there, where Isabel playfully pushed the recorder away to the opposite side of the table and I asked if she’d prefer it if it were in the next room? 🙂 ) Listen to the end, where Isabel says that this is her favourite song from the book. You can tell from her tone that she has a lot of emotion for this song.

Have a look at our Soundcloud account in general too, you will find waulking songs, psalm singing etc on our playlists and recordings made specially for you by our wonderful team and our fantastic contributors.

We will also be offering spoken word listings and newsletters shortly.
